Recipe App

Overview

An application which provides you with a wide range of recipes which you can use for your next party. You can schedule events, share recipes and cook together virtually. It also has a voice assistant Allie who will be there to help you while you are on hands-free mode.

THE CHALLENGE

Finding a way to stay connected and enjoying group activities while we are trying to stay safe in our homes is quite a challenge. I wanted to design an app which will help people cook together, share their recipes and organize feasts from the comfort of their home.

Research

I started my research by talking to my friends and family who love cooking together. It’s fun when you have people around but not being able to meet each other has made it difficult to perform group activities like cooking a meal together. I started with brainstorming ideas about cooking together virtually and came up with a list of options/features that will be required to create a seamless experience:

Real-time updates on each other’s cooking progress
Video/Voice Call
Hands-free | Should be able to use the app without having to touch the screen
Customization of the recipe/ingredients
Create an event to cook with multiple people at the same time

What's next?

During the course of this project I had a lot of ideas in mind that I thought I would have been able to develop with more time. Here are a few:

There can be a tablet version of this app for the elderly to be able to view clearly.
Users can create events through browse recipe pages, when they are viewing a recipe they like.
They can save their favorite recipes.
If they haven't decided on a recipe they can discuss with their group in an instant but temporary chat window while creating an event.
If no recipe in mind they can create an event and add a recipe to it later on.
Users can add multiple recipes and assign them to profiles as a “potluck” option.
During a video call, if they swipe right they get to recipe, if they swipe left, they will get the event summary - members, progress, how much time it has been.
